If you’re planning to reorganize your closets, organization expert Peter Walsh has a three-step process to help you figure out what to keep and what to give away. You should keep clothing that fits you well, that you really like and that brings you compliments. Anything else should be donated to your local charity or dropped off at a retailer that accepts clothing for recycling. Be mindful of keeping your wardrobe pared down with this mantra: If something comes in, something goes out.

Many gardeners will fill outdoor pots with a few layers of polystyrene packing peanuts to help fill space and make the pots easier to transport. While this is a great way to upcycle packing peanuts that come in the mail, be sure to do one more thing: Contain the peanuts in a bag. You can reuse a freezer bag by filling it with packing peanuts. This will prevent the Styrofoam from mixing into the soil or getting loose in the environment. When it’s time to re-pot, the peanuts will be self-contained and easy to remove.

Owning a backyard pool comes with responsibilities, and one of the best things you can do to help save money and water is to invest in a pool cover. If you don’t cover the pool, it will lose about 7,000 gallons of water every year on average. The simple act of covering the pool can reduce evaporation by as much as 95%. And covers also use the power of the sun to help warm the water, which helps to further save energy and money.
