If you love burning candles at home, it's common knowledge that paraffin wax alternatives like soy wax will burn cleaner and release fewer pollutants into the air. But when shopping for soy wax candles, buyer beware. If a candle is simply marked "soy wax" or "soy blend," there's no guarantee that it is 100 percent soy. In fact, only 51 percent of the candle needs to be soy wax to be called a soy candle. The other 49 percent can be any wax, including paraffin. Look for candles marked 100 percent soy wax to be absolutely sure.

Are you an aggressive driver? If so, you might be wasting tons of gas and money. When you drive at speeds at or below 55 miles per hour, your car is working at maximum fuel efficiency. Go any faster, and for every 5 miles in speed above 55, you decrease your fuel efficiency by 10 percent. So if you're sailing at 75 miles per hour, you've wasted 40 percent fuel efficiency on your car. Stay safe, save fuel and drive at reasonable speeds whenever possible.

A farmers market is a great way to connect with the growers who sell their fruits, veggies and other fresh food direct to you, the consumer. But there's no guarantee that what they sell is organically grown. When shopping at a farmers market, look for food marked with the USDA-certified organic mark or signs that indicate the produce is organic. If it's not, ask: Often produce is not certified organic, but it's still grown using organic methods. If that's all that's important to you, it should be fine to buy those items.
