Those fizzing tablets used to get dentures sparkling clean have myriad uses around the house. If you have reusable plastic storage containers that have been stained or have an odor from, say, leftover eggplant Parmesan, fill the container with warm water and two tablets. Wait an hour, and rinse to reveal a like-new container. This also works wonders on coffee-stained mugs and cups. And if you love your slow cooker, use tablets to get the inside sparkling clean.

Many of us are looking for all-natural or eco-friendly cleaning products to use at home. The good news is that there are many great brands to help you get your home sparkling clean. But since cleaning products are not required by law to list ingredients, it can be hard to tell if something is nontoxic or not. Since all cleaning products need to have a warning in case of accidental ingestion, see what level of toxicity is marked on the product. A product labeled with the word "caution" is less toxic than products labeled with the words "warning," "danger" or "poison."

Buying common kitchen staples like flour, nuts, seeds, pasta and rice from the bulk bin can cost up to 80 percent less than buying these items conventionally. Using the bulk bins is economical because you can also buy as much or as little of the item as you want. But it's also very eco-friendly: Around 30 percent of the weight and 50 percent of the volume of trash sent to landfills comes from packaging. So by buying in bulk, you reduce waste and save money at the same time.
