Around 26 percent of all fruits and vegetables grown in the United States never make it to store shelves because they look ugly or irregular. Even though the produce is perfectly fine to eat, stores think consumers want only perfect apples, tomatoes and other perishables. The Ugly Fruit and Veg Campaign (endfoodwaste.org) is working hard to change the perception that irregular is bad -- instead, it's great.
