Instead of using one of the big search engines like Google or Yahoo, consider using Ecosia.com instead. It works just like any other search engine to help you find what you need, but it uses its ad revenue to plant trees. When you make a search, targeted ads appear in the results -- like in any search engine. Revenue that's earned from those ads goes to plant trees all over the world. Since 2009, over 3 million trees have already been planted.

The nonprofit OneSight works to bring new eyeglasses to people all over the world who otherwise could not afford the gift of vision correction. One way to help the organization is to unload your junk drawers of old eyewear -- including regular glasses, sunglasses and bifocals -- and drop them off in free recycling boxes at stores like LensCrafters and Pearle Vision. The old eyewear is stripped and recycled, and all the proceeds are donated to OneSight, which uses the funds raised for its important charity work.

Even with the best intentions, many of us have problems keeping household plants alive, which may actually have to do with the type of water you're using. If you have a water softener system that uses salt, that treated water may be slowly killing the plants. Softened water contains salt, which can build up and dry out plants. It's best to use filtered water whenever possible or fill up a bucket or large pitcher and let it sit out overnight. Any chlorine, minerals and even trace salt will dissipate, leaving you with perfect water for your plants.
