The average family of four wastes about $600 a year by throwing away spoiled fruits and vegetables. One of the reasons that celery, apples and lettuce go bad is that they ripen too quickly in the refrigerator. Produce gives off something called ethylene gas; when fruits and veggies are packed together, they create a large amount of the gas, which speeds the ripening process. One way to prevent this is to invest in ethylene gas absorbers. Simply put the small discs in the refrigerator, and they absorb the gas like a sponge. You can find these absorbers at any home improvement store.

Even though the bathroom is often the smallest room in the house, it is usually the largest breeding ground for unhealthy mold. The reason? Mold loves damp, dark places, and with the combination of steamy showers and lack of lighting, you've got the perfect environment for it. To keep your bathroom healthy, be sure to use the bathroom ventilation. When you are showering and taking a bath, keep the ventilation running the entire time. And when you are done, keep it going for at least 30 minutes to properly remove the excess moisture from the air. Keep the shower free of loofahs, kids' toys and even bottles of shampoo; all of those nooks and crevices are perfect spots for mold to grow and thrive.

Some of the biggest culprits of accidents on roadways in America are deer-car collisions. But the majority of the accidents aren't from hitting the deer the driver sees darting across the road; it's from another deer that quickly followed the one the driver missed. If you see a deer running across the street, there is a high statistical chance another one will be right behind. Slow down and be aware of the second deer.
