If you're an avid shopper on Amazon.com, there's an easy way to do your shopping and support a nonprofit organization or charity at the same time. It's called Smile (smile.amazon.com), and Amazon donates 0.5 percent of your purchase price to the charitable organizations of your choice. The only difference between regular Amazon and Smile.Amazon.com is that you need to start your shopping on the Smile site. Choose from their list of spotlight charities like the ASPCA, Doctors Without Borders and the World Wildlife Fund. It's a great way to do your shopping from the convenience of home and support a good cause, too.

Never feed aquatic wildlife like ducks and geese pieces of bread. While it may conjure up memories of childhood, the reality is that the bread is not a healthy treat for them. Bread is low in needed nutrients for birds, and it can cause their organs to become fatty, which leads to problems like heart disease, liver issues and other major health complications. Birds can also become dependent on us for food, which can lead to aggressive behavior. If you enjoy feeding ducks and geese, reach for a healthy choice like cracked corn instead. They love it, and a little can go long way.

Whenever you buy a bottle of vitamins, a new electronic or even a frying pan, you'll find those little pouches called desiccant packets inside. They are designed to absorb moisture to protect the product, and they should be saved, not thrown away. The next time you accidentally get your smartphone wet, wipe it off and place it in a bowl of desiccant packets. They'll do exactly what they're supposed to do: Absorb moisture and help dry your phone.
