It seems logical: A medicine cabinet in the bathroom should be the perfect spot to hold over-the-counter and prescription medications and vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. But the reality is that the bathroom is one of the least temperature- and moisture-stable rooms in the house, and heat and moisture can make medicines less effective. Instead, the best bet to store your pills is in the bedroom. Keep them in a drawer where the moisture and temperature levels are pretty consistent year-round. If you're worried about kids finding them, get a drawer lock from any home improvement store.

Many of us have gas-powered stoves in the kitchen that we use on a day-to-day basis. But did you know that if your gas range isn't properly maintained, you could be releasing high amounts of carbon monoxide into your home? Do this one easy tip: Turn on your stove and range and look at the burners. Are the flames blue, or are they yellow-tipped? If you see yellow, it's a sign your stove is releasing too much carbon monoxide, and it needs to be readjusted, repaired or replaced. Contact the manufacturer for how to remedy the situation.

Ever wonder what to do with small personal care appliances like hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons when they no longer work? First, don't donate broken appliances to charities like Goodwill and Salvation Army; they don't want them, and it costs them money to dispose of the goods. But the good news? They are easily recyclable. Best Buy will take your broken personal care appliances and recycle them free of charge. Just bring them to the store, and it'll handle the rest.
