Smartphones, laptops, digital cameras and other technological products have become a ubiquitous part of our daily lives. But unlike clothes, you can't toss them into a washing machine to keep them clean. For products that have a touch screen, the simplest way to kill germs and bacteria on them is to freeze them. Just place the device in a freezer bag and into a freezer for one hour. Then let it come back up to room temperature before using it again. The cold temperature eradicates germs and doesn't interfere with the touch-sensitive screens.

A backyard bird feeder is a simple way to bring our feathered friends closer to our homes to watch and help them find food year-round. But did you know that even a little bit of moisture on birdseed can quickly create mold and encourage bacteria growth? If birds eat spoiled seed, they can get sick or die. If you suspect your feeder is wet from a recent rainstorm, remove the spoiled seed and wash and dry the feeder before refilling it. Or hang a feeder in a dry spot -- like under a roof awning -- that naturally keeps moisture away.

If you love having butterflies in your backyard garden, give this easy DIY project a try. According to the Humane Society of the United States, butterflies love mud puddles because they help the insects do double-duty: They can gather both water and nutrients from the mud. To make a butterfly puddle haven in your backyard, grab an old pie tin and mix water with dirt and a little sand. Add enough water so the soil mixture is well-saturated, but there are water puddles on top; when in doubt, add more water. Then find a sunny spot near flowers and leave it for the butterflies to find and go "puddling."
