If you love having butterflies in your backyard garden, give this easy DIY project a try. According to the Humane Society of the United States, butterflies love mud puddles because they help the insects do double-duty: They can gather both water and nutrients from the mud. To make a butterfly puddle haven in your backyard, grab an old pie tin and mix water with dirt and a little sand. Add enough water so the soil mixture is well-saturated, but there are water puddles on top; when in doubt, add more water. Then find a sunny spot near flowers and leave it for the butterflies to find and go "puddling."

You know the phrase "good to the last drop"? Well, apply it to your beauty products with these simple tips. Look for tube wringers at your local art-supply store. These wringers are designed to get the last remaining bits of paint out of tubes, but they also do the trick for toothpaste, hand creams and other beauty products. And if your mascara is dried up or unmanageable due to clumps, run the container under hot water. The warmth will re-liquefy it so it's as good as new.

Parents who set up a sandbox as a place for their kids to play may also unknowingly be setting up the perfect environment for insects to nest and build colonies. Instead of reaching for chemical pesticides to keep your sandbox insect-free, search your pantry. Generously sprinkle cinnamon all over the sandbox and rake it through the sand. Cinnamon is a natural insect deterrent, and it smells great. If you need a lot of cinnamon for your extra-large sandbox, look for generic brands or inexpensive bulk containers at your local warehouse club store.
