With about 140 million tax returns processed by the IRS every year, it makes sense to go paperless when filing, to save trees. But going green with your taxes can also save you money in the long run, too. According to CBS News, if you use an electronic file for your tax return, your error rate in filing your taxes is just about 1 percent. If you file your taxes manually using paper files, the error rate skyrockets to 20 percent. So going green by going paperless can actually help you save money and be error-free, too.

Did you know more than 300 million golf balls are discarded every year in the United States? The golf ball manufacturer Dixon wants to change that and reward golfers for handing in their old golf balls to be recycled. You can recycle any brand of Dixon golf balls at any retailer that carries Dixon products (find retailers at dixongolf.com). In addition, for each dozen recycled, Dixon will give you a $6 credit toward the purchase of new Dixon golf balls. What do they do with the old balls? They are shredded and recycled into new recreational products.

If you can afford to make only one repair at home, fix that leaky toilet. The average family of four in the United States uses about 400 gallons of water every day. That's for showers, washing clothes and dishes, flushing toilets and more. If you have a leaky toilet in just one bathroom, you can waste up to about 200 gallons of water every day, or half your daily average use. Multiply that by additional leaky toilets, and not only are you wasting water, but money is literally going down the drain. The repair costs to fix the toilet will pay for itself over time.
