Oil-based stains on clothes can be impossible to remove since grease can penetrate the fibers of clothes and become permanent. One way to effective degrease clothes is to use a heavy-duty remover normally used to degum items like sticky labels. Brands like Goof Off and Goo Gone are made with microemulsion formulas that quickly break down greasy messes without leaving any residue or markings behind. Simply saturate the clothing with the remover, allow to soak for at least an hour and wash as normal. It'll be as good as new.

As the weather turns colder, invasive insects like stinkbugs look for warmth inside our homes. While perfectly harmless, the bugs do as their name suggests: They release an offensive odor when they are captured or squished. To prevent stinkbugs, don’t reach for chemical insecticides -- instead, simply turn off the lights. During evening hours, turn off outdoor lights around the house since stinkbugs are attracted to light. Also, shut drapes and blinds so light emitting from the inside of your home doesn’t attract bugs from the outside. Make this a common practice for the fall months; when the first frost hits, your home will be stinkbug free.

Perhaps one of the most dreaded household chores is cleaning the hard-to-remove soap scum that builds up on the tile in showers and tubs. Instead of scrubbing with harsh chemicals, take the lazier and greener approach instead. Wait for the tile to completely dry, and then use a plastic putty knife to gently and effectively scrape off the soap scum. Whatever is left behind, spray with white vinegar and wipe clean with a microfiber towel. It'll be sparkling in minutes.
