Now that GPS and online navigation tools have made paper maps somewhat obsolete, upcycle them in a festive way for your next party. Cut out square sections of the map and roll them into paper cones; they can be filled with whatever you want to share with your guests –- confetti or candy, for example -- and will help keep up the fun festivities of your event.

When you have a choice between a tub of plastic or a foil-wrapped option at the supermarket, always go with the foil. Grocery staples like butter and cream cheese often come in two options, a plastic tub (that is not easily recyclable) or one minimally wrapped. Go with the foil-wrapped one to cut back on plastic use and, more often than not, save money, too.

Do you still buy bagged ice at your local store? Bagged ice is a waste of energy, literally. Bagged ice sits for weeks -- if not months -- in the large freezer compartments, using up countless loads of electricity in order to stay frozen. Instead, invest in ice cube trays and do it yourself. And with so many ice cube trays that come in a variety of shapes, this is more fun, too.
