Cardboard boxes that carry tomatoes, peaches and avocados have plastic compartments inside that help the produce from banging around when shipping. Ask clerks at your local supermarket if they can give you some boxes with the inserts to take home with you (the boxes are usually trashed). The boxes are the perfect size to keep Christmas ornaments snug and safe.

Fall is an excellent time to think about finally starting that compost bin. Decomposing leaves you rake up are an excellent base to successful compost; simply fill an inexpensive bin with grass clippings and leaves, add water from the hose, and then fill with kitchen scraps on top. These layers create the perfect environment for all the organic matter to decompose and turn into beneficial mulch for your garden come springtime.
