Fall is an excellent time to think about finally starting that compost bin. Decomposing leaves you rake up are an excellent base to successful compost; simply fill an inexpensive bin with grass clippings and leaves, add water from the hose, and then fill with kitchen scraps on top. These layers create the perfect environment for all the organic matter to decompose and turn into beneficial mulch for your garden come springtime.

When served drinks on a flight, ask the flight attendants if they can give you your beverage of choice in the aluminum can only and just skip the plastic cup altogether. Since most airlines recycle the cans they collect, this is a simple way to stay hydrated and create zero waste 10,000 feet up in the air.

Oversized beach towels don’t just have to be for summer fun, they can help redecorate a home. Solid-colored towels are large enough to tuck into sofas to give them a new look and protect your furniture. The best part? If the towel gets a stain or the family dog sheds all over it, you can just untuck it and wash it clean.
