While using a reusable bag to pack your kid's lunch in every day is the greenest choice, just be sure to wash it frequently to keep it clean. Foods that spill inside the bag not only cause stains on the fabric, but they can become a breeding ground for unhealthy germs, bacteria and mold. By washing the bag frequently, you'll keep the food safe and your kids healthy, too.

When packing your lunch for work or your kid's lunch for school, consider sending double-duty items. Freezing a container of yogurt transforms it into both an ice pack for the rest of the food items and also keeps it cold for lunch. By the time lunch rolls around, it'll be thawed out, all while keeping the whole lunch fresh.

Many people like to take long road trips during the summer months as a way to see America. If your car is a gas-guzzler, consider renting a hybrid or an automobile with a higher fuel-efficiency rate instead of using your car. The fuel savings over a long road trip could balance out of the cost of renting. Plus, you're not adding hundreds of miles and wear and tear to your car.
