Maximum gas-saving tip: The best time to fill up on gas is when it's half-full, not when you're close to empty. When there is less air in the gas tank, less gasoline will evaporate as you fill up. And as always, make sure you click the gas cap at least 3 times to make sure no gas escapes after you've filled up.

Flimsy reusable bags emblazoned with store logos can be transformed into durable insulated bags in just a few minutes. All you need is a roll of aluminum repair tape -- it looks like shiny duct tape and it's found at any hardware store -- and a pair of scissors. Cut strips of tape and cover the entire outside of the bag. The tape acts as an insulator and reinforces the bag, making it more durable to carry heavier bags of groceries.

A car is like a mini greenhouse with all its windows. In the summer months, a parked car can heat up quickly in the sun -- up to 120 degrees in just 10 minutes -- making it an incredibly uncomfortable environment when you hop back into the car. To help keep it cooler, park it under a shady spot or crack the windows a little to help it ventilate. And as always: Never leave a pet or child in a parked car.
