If you're landscaping around your home and considering what ground cover plants to use, think of buying double-use edible plants like herbs for your yard. Fast-growing and pleasant-smelling herbs such as rosemary, sage, thyme and mint are good options. Plus you can just pluck and cook with fresh herbs anytime you want.

The next time you redeem a gift card at the store, don't toss it out when you've spent the whole amount. Instead, consider recharging the card at the store and gift it to someone else who may have a birthday or other celebration coming up. Most cards are rechargeable and reusable, so just pass it along!

If you must water your lawn, avoid doing it in the middle of the day when the sun is at its brightest. Not only will the water evaporate more quickly, but wet grass acts like a mirror and can actually intensify the rays and create burn spots. Water early in the morning or at sunset for maximum saturation.
