The car air fresheners that you hang from your rearview mirror are likely to be saturated with artificial fragrances and chemical agents designed to spread the scent. To create a less toxic environment, consider borrowing a scented bar of soap from your bathroom and placing it somewhere in the car; it'll gently scent the car in a more pleasing, environmentally friendly way.

Save clean and dry Ziploc bags to use as cushioning the next time you ship something fragile. Simply fill the bag with air (use a straw to blow air in), and then seal it closed to make an air-filled bubble. Wrap them around the item you're shipping to protect it when it's in transit.

Seeing a trail of ants going through your kitchen may make you want to reach for the bug spray, but with a little due diligence, you can skip the toxic fumes to get rid of the bugs. Because insects are looking for food sources, your best bet is to sweep up crumbs and wipe down condiments that may be left on the counter. A drippy bottle of ketchup, a bowl of half-eaten dog food, and crumbs from the pizza party all invite insects to come and feast. A simple cleanup should get rid of your buggy problem.
