Seeing a trail of ants going through your kitchen may make you want to reach for the bug spray, but with a little due diligence, you can skip the toxic fumes to get rid of the bugs. Because insects are looking for food sources, your best bet is to sweep up crumbs and wipe down condiments that may be left on the counter. A drippy bottle of ketchup, a bowl of half-eaten dog food, and crumbs from the pizza party all invite insects to come and feast. A simple cleanup should get rid of your buggy problem.

Wooden cutting boards that were used to cut up something greasy or oily can be almost impossible to clean up. Reach for regular table salt and pour it all over the grease stains; let it sit for a few hours, and scrub it clean with hot, soapy water. Let it air-dry and soon your cutting board will be as good as new.

Hard water or lime scale stains on your bathroom fixtures can make them unsightly and even hinder their ability to perform properly. One chemical-free solution is to grab a cut lemon and squeeze the juice all over the fixture, using half the lemon as a scrubber to really saturate the faucet handles or showerhead. Let the acid do its magic overnight, and wipe it off the next morning.
