We all know we shouldn't leave our cell phone charger in the wall when it's not charging anything because it still uses power. So take the extra step to unplug other rechargeable items from the wall when they're fully charged, like electric toothbrushes, shavers, cordless drills and battery rechargers for items like digital cameras. Not only will this save energy; it will help extend the life of the rechargeable battery.

Many of us have broken the bottled water habit in favor of tap water. If you live in an older home, be sure to only drink the coldest water possible from the tap. Drinking any hot tap water could actually leach lead and other toxic metals out of older pipes into your water. If you need hot water, boil it first to be absolutely sure it's safe to drink.
