Hot tea drinkers, listen up: boil water in an electric tea kettle instead of heating it up the old-fashioned way on the stove. An electric kettle that you plug in is designed to heat up water more efficiently than a stove -- gas or electric. This can even save you in electricity costs if you are heating up water just once a day.

Many bedding items come packaged in sturdy, zipped plastic pouches, which can be saved and used for storage. If you have guests coming to stay for the weekend, then keep fresh bedding, towels and personal care items stashed inside the bags. When your guests arrive, you'll have everything you need to get their room ready.

All it takes is one person to forget to put the cap back on a permanent marker for it to dry out completely. Instead of tossing it out, you can try to resuscitate the marker by filling a cup with rubbing alcohol and placing it inside, felt-tip down, allowing it to soak for about 10 minutes. This can help remove the dried-out ink and bring the permanent marker back to life.
