Not only do inkjet cartridges cost a lot of money, they also dry out quickly and need to be replaced. There are small tricks you can do to extend the life of the cartridges. Try defaulting all of your printing to "draft" mode instead of "best" mode to save ink; use only the finest mode when printing photos or resumes. Also, choose a less ink-intensive font -- like century gothic -- when the choice of font doesn't really matter. Believe it or not, it will save ink over time.

Just because it's free, doesn't mean you need to take it. Think twice before taking free magazines (in flight, hotel rooms), gifts with purchase (at the beauty counter, for example), or some kind of in-store promotion with giveaways. If you truly need it, please take it and enjoy it. But if it's something you clearly will never use, don't add more junk to your home and leave the freebies behind.

The beauty industry often packages their products in tubs, jars and tubes that are not usually picked up in curbside recycling programs. Origins (a division of Estee Lauder) is working to address this problem by accepting all beauty products' plastic packaging in their stores and their participating department store counters for recycling. It can be any brand and any type of plastic that once held a cosmetic product.
