If you forget your reusable bags the next time you shop at the supermarket, don't reach for paper, plastic or even purchase a new reusable bag at the store. Instead, ask a store employee if he can get you sturdy cardboard boxes (from when shipments came in) from the back, so you can reuse them for your purchases instead. Just line your cart with the boxes, fill with groceries, and use them to carry them in place of bags.

The next time you're staying at a hotel and you're standing in line to take a taxi to the airport, ask the people in line if anyone else is also heading your way. Sharing a taxi not only saves natural resources, since you're carpooling; it also can save you money. Splitting the fare to go the same place is not only ecological; it's economical, too.

An easy way to add illumination to the backyard doesn't involve expensive solar or electrical outdoor lighting. All you need are some rocks and nontoxic glow-in-the-dark paint. Collect medium- to large-size rocks in your own backyard and slather them with a few coats of glow-in-the-dark paint. Allow them to dry and create a pathway with the rocks. They'll cast a glow when the sun sets and help lead you and your guests through the dark backyard, free of "charge."
