Summer months are a great time to hold a yard sale to unload unwanted stuff and make a little cash. But if you're time-restricted or don't want people rummaging through your stuff at the crack of dawn, then see if you can partner with an existing yard sale in your neighborhood. The rule of thumb: If you have more merchandise at a sale, it's likely that more people driving by will stop and take a look at it.

Even when a microwave oven isn't being used, it still uses power to stay on when you keep it plugged into the wall. If you use the microwave oven infrequently, make a habit of unplugging it after each use. You'll save energy, which means saving money on your electric bill.

If you shop at a local farmers market or green grocer, shop near the end of the day when they are closing and clearing out inventory. Ugly vegetables or abundant bushels of fruit can often be purchased for a fraction of the price. There is nothing wrong with this produce; you'll get the freshest in-season mix and you'll save some money, too.
