Ask your local gardening center if they'll donate overgrown or wilting flowers and other plants to you. Large landscaping plants could be used to green a dead public space in your community. Annual plants could be used for kids' craft projects (press them in between books to dry them out). Palettes of plants could even be used around a community center, a senior citizens' home or any other place that needs a little natural dressing up.

If you make a pot of coffee in the morning, don't keep the leftover coffee warm all day by leaving the machine on. Instead, transfer the hot coffee to an insulated thermos and pour from that when you want another cup later in the day. Added benefit? No more burnt-tasting coffee.
