Not every lawn needs fertilizer, but if you are adamant about using it, make sure the fertilizer goes on the lawn, not on sidewalks or the street. Even a small amount that makes it onto non-turf areas can be easily washed away by rain down storm drains, polluting lakes and streams.

If you want to save both time and money, try "grasscycling." The next time you mow the lawn, leave the clippings behind on the grass. They'll naturally break down back into fertilizer for the lawn and reduce your fertilizer needs. The best part? No more bagging grass clippings and no more hauling it to the curb.

When grocery shopping, make a list of what you need and stick to it. Make a list of what you toss away and don't buy it again. Don't try new foods at warehouse stores; instead, only buy bulk quantities of items you know your family frequently eats and loves. Avoid using coupons on food products you're unsure of, especially if it's a discount for multiples of one item. You're not saving money if you don't eat it. Don't be afraid of a half-empty fridge. If you need something, look for food delivery services in your area. Most of us, however, live near major supermarkets that are easy to get in and out of.
