For many people, a microwave is a daily necessity for food preparation. Make a habit of cleaning the inside of the microwave, especially right after any food splatters while heating. A dirty microwave can be a breeding ground for mold, so make sure to wipe it down with a damp microfiber towel to get it clean.

When shopping for a new cutting board, the best eco-choice is also the best chef's choice: bamboo. Bamboo cutting boards are made out of the fast-growing grass, but are as tough as hardwood. While slicing and dicing away on bamboo boards, they're also kinder to your knives because they don't dull the blades.
