Get your home ready for spring by wiping all the dirt and grime off the window panes. Instead of using paper towels and smelly glass cleaner for the job, grab an all-purpose, nontoxic cleaner and a stack of microfiber towels. Toss the dirty towels into the washing machine; be sure to wash them separately from your clothes.

If your hybrid car is in desperate need of a wash and dry, leave it to the car wash. The automated car washes are the greenest choice, since they operate as efficiently as possible. Many car washes actually recycle water, too. When you wash your car at home with a hose, you are likely to use more water. It's even worse if you use a non-biodegradable soap, because it'll go into the storm drains or groundwater.

Start a "freebie" office supply drawer in your kitchen. Place empty, clean takeout containers in the drawer and designate each one for a specific office supply. When you buy fresh flowers, save the rubber bands; save paper clips from the mail; keep twist-ties from your produce bags and anything else you might use. Anytime you need something, you'll have a stash of supplies ready to go.
