If you've moved, but still have an old book of maps from your former hometown, consider recycling it into useful placemats for the dining room table. Simply tear out pages and have them laminated at your local office supply store. Laminating will make them durable, waterproof, and they're the perfect size for a single place setting. Larger maps (or even blueprints of your house) can be laminated and transformed into oversized tablecloths for the table, too.

Did you know the average office worker uses 10,000 sheets of paper per year? While going totally paperless may not be an option for all, drastically cutting back on paper use is something we should all try to do. Break the habit of printing out e-mails and read them onscreen instead. Or upload your work documents to a virtual server and download them to your home computer when you need to work from home. You'll save paper and time and money: a triple eco-threat that's good for the planet and your wallet.

In the market for new sneakers? Be sure to recycle your old ones. Bring any old pair of gym shoes to any Niketown store; they'll be recycled as part of the company's Reuse-A-Shoe program that grinds sneakers down to be used in the construction of running tracks and basketball courts.
