Pack your freezer tight! Since your refrigerator is on 24/7, it's best to keep your freezer as packed as possible with frozen foods. A lightly packed freezer has to use more energy to keep things frozen; a snugly packed one takes advantage of the residual "cool" from the frozen products and therefore uses less energy. So stock up at the warehouse store and fill your freezer up with delicious treats and meals.

If you're only ever going to do just one thing, do this: Vote. Offer to carpool your co-workers or an elderly neighbor to your respective polling places to make sure your voices are heard loud and clear! (And always leave voter registration forms in obvious places and file for an absentee ballot if you know your plans will take you out of town on Election Day.)

Instead of using the electricity-sapping Stairmaster at the gym, why not make use of your apartment building, office or the hotel you're staying in? Whenever I travel for work, I always request a top-level hotel room; for my workout, I simply warm up by walking down the stairs to the lobby and get my cardio by running back up the stairs.
