This may seem silly, but ditch the electric can opener altogether. According to The Daily Green, if everyone used a manual can opener instead of an electric one, we'd save $36 million in energy costs alone. An added bonus for going manual: If the power goes out, you can still open cans with ease.

When baking that yummy frozen macaroni and cheese, don't heat up the oven to bake just one tiny dish. Small toasters, convection or microwave ovens are a more energy-efficient choice. They take less time to heat up food and use much less energy. Save the oven for baking and cooking family-size entrees.

Think light power the next time you need a new wristwatch. Like solar energy that harnesses the power of the sun to create electricity, Citizen's Eco-Drive watch (www.citizenwatch.com) is powered from light sources. The Eco-Drive doesn't have a battery and only needs a minimal amount of light to charge it fully. No batteries ever need to be replaced (saving you time), and no battery is ever thrown away in the landfill.
