If your office at work is a bit chilly, don't grab the space heater to warm up the whole room. Instead, use a heating pad by placing it on the floor and resting your feet on it. It'll act as a portable radiant floor, warming up your feet and keeping your whole body cozier. This way, you're using significantly less energy and making less noise.

Pay attention when you're sorting your recyclables. Many people believe all plastic is the same. But in fact, there are several grades of plastic that are coded by numbers 1 through 7. The most commonly recycled plastics are No. 1 and No. 2 types: milk jugs, detergent bottles, etc. It's imperative that you only put out what your local community accepts for recycling. By mixing non-recyclable and recyclable plastics together, you risk contaminating the whole load, which means a whole batch of recyclables might have to be dropped off at a landfill instead.

We've all heard that plastic six-pack rings are murder to marine wildlife, which can get caught in the rings and choke. While we all know snipping the rings with scissors can prevent this, you can go one step further in being green when picking up soda at the grocery store: don't buy six-pack rings at all. Choose soda in easily recyclable aluminum cans that are boxed in 12 or 24 packs, which come without plastic rings. The more you buy the more money you'll likely save, too.
