For your Labor Day picnic, pick up summer's last bountiful harvest from your local farmer's markets and roadside stands. Not only will the sweetest, tastiest corn, watermelon and other assorted treats taste the freshest at your party, but you'll also be supporting local farmers. And since the produce didn't need to be shipped in from abroad, you're saving money, too. But the best part? It's just fun.

To get your red-and-white gingham blanket looking its best for your Labor Day picnic, let the hot sun do the work for you. Rub salt and lemon on any old stains and then hang it outside on a clothesline. The salt will help scour out the stain and the lemon juice will brighten the spot. After a few hours, wipe off the stained area with a damp towel and let it air-dry.

If you're dropping off clothes and knickknacks at your local Goodwill this weekend, take a peek inside. I'm always surprised at what great bargains and treasures can be found in the housewares section. Entire collections of vintage ceramics and fine china can be found for a song. Why get the expensive designer sets in stores when the real deal can be found for pennies on the dollar? And check the kid's section. Little-used board games can be found for a few dollars a piece. Build a rainy day game collection at home, so you and your friends will have something fun to do next weekend.
