While drinking from a reusable water bottle is the greenest way to go, there is a backup idea if you must buy bottled water. Just buy mineral water, which comes in both flat and fizzy varieties, in glass bottles. Glass is not only easily recyclable, it's infinitely recyclable. Glass bottles become new glass bottles.

If you really wished your local supermarket sold vegan hickory-smoked tofu pepperoni, stop wishing and write it down. Lots of stores have customer comment cards -- either the paper ones or online forms you can fill out -- that request customer feedback on their services and products. If enough people ask for a particular item, stores are going to stock it. After all, their job is to provide the goods and services you want and will pay for.
