Freezer burn happens when food like meats, vegetables and ice cream lose moisture after prolonged exposure to cold air. While freezer-burnt foods are safe to eat, they can be rather bland, tough or just not right when you eat them. To prevent this, do a few simple things. Start by using a marker to note the date you place something in the freezer; pre-packaged foods will have a “best by” date, but it can be hard to remember when you froze food. Rotate your freezer food once in a while, and always avoid thawing and refreezing food.
