Do you use mothballs to keep your sweaters and knits safe from being destroyed by moths and their larva? Simply put: Don't. Turns out mothballs are made entirely from a chemical called naphthalene, which basically means they slowly turn from a solid "ball" into a chemical vapor. In other words, if you can smell mothballs, you're inhaling the chemical insecticide. Try natural repellants like cedar chips, or create a sachet with dried herbs like rosemary, thyme and bay leaves.
