A mattress can be a pricey investment, so naturally you’ll want to maintain the quality and lifespan of yours. One very simple way to increase the longevity of your mattress is to rotate it on a regular basis so that the entire surface area wears out evenly. Doing this helps prevent indentations that cause the bed to be lumpy or have that “caved-in” feel. One trick to help you remember when to rotate: Whenever you change the clocks to spring forward or fall back, also turn your mattress.

If you love to craft with kids, it’s important to stock up on supplies that are free of harsh chemicals. Many products like ink pads, markers and craft paints can contain asthma-triggering chemicals or have high levels of volatile organic compounds. The basic rule of thumb is, if the product has a smell, it’s likely chemical-based. How do you avoid these products? Look for labels that say “nontoxic” or “water-based” for the cleanest options. And search online for ways to make DIY paints, play dough and even slime using all-natural ingredients.

But did you know that it’s also imperative to not burn driftwood? Even though it came from a tree and simply tumbled in the ocean, driftwood also acts like a sponge, absorbing chemicals in the oceans that -- you guessed it -- are released when burned.
