If you live in a climate that is mild to extremely hot year-round, the color of your roof can have an impact on your home’s energy efficiency. Just like when you wear a black T-shirt vs. a white T-shirt, color can either reflect or absorb heat. A study by Florida Solar Energy found that a dark roof can make the attic of a home up to 30 degrees hotter in comparison to a white-roof attic. So choosing the lightest-color roofing tiles or painting a flat roof white can be an easy investment or choice that can help keep you cool in the long run.

Want to try a DIY stain remover recipe that’s a cinch to make, all-natural and really, truly works? All you need is 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 cup liquid dish soap and 1 tablespoon baking soda. Mix them together into a spray bottle and then spray away the next time you spill some red wine or spaghetti sauce on your shirt. The soap helps break up grease, and the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide help lift the stain out of the fibers of the clothing. Store the mixture in a dark place; hydrogen peroxide is very sensitive to light.

Ever buy something online and have it arrive surrounded by those plastic “pillows” to protect it during shipping? To dispose of them, there are two things you can do: You can reuse them when you need to ship something, or you can simply pop the pillows to remove the air and recycle them. The recycling bins at the grocery store that take plastic shopping bags will take deflated plastic air pillows, too. They are made from the same type of resin, and they'll get recycled into new plastic products.
