A farmers market is a great way to connect with the growers who sell their fruits, veggies and other fresh food direct to you, the consumer. But there's no guarantee that what they sell is organically grown. When shopping at a farmers market, look for food marked with the USDA-certified organic mark or signs that indicate the produce is organic. If it's not, ask: Often produce is not certified organic, but it's still grown using organic methods. If that's all that's important to you, it should be fine to buy those items.

One of the worst enemies of oils like olive, grape seed and avocado is ultraviolet light. When light from the sun's rays hits your clear oil bottles, it deteriorates the contents. When shopping for oils, look for opaque containers instead. Dark containers block the UV light and help keep your oils fresher, longer. And don't store them near your kitchen stove: The heat from cooking can also break down oils.

Ever wonder what's the difference between regular table salt and sea salt? Table salt is pure sodium chloride, which lacks nutrients and minerals. Sea salt, on the other hand, has essential minerals and has good-for-you nutrients like iodine, magnesium and potassium. Your body does need salt, so if you are cooking or want to season a meal, reach for a pinch of sea salt.
