Do you have chia seeds in your pantry that you sprinkle on salads, add to smoothies or mix into sauces to give whatever you're eating a health boost? Well, the same seeds you eat can also successfully grow in your backyard as a beautiful, flowering plant. Chia seeds germinate easily and grow quickly. When they bloom, they turn to seed, which birds love to eat. Just leave the flowers to dry out, and the birds will feed from them.

Microfiber towels have gained a tremendous following because they are reusable and do a great job at gripping onto dirt, germs and bacteria. But with anything that literally absorbs toxins, it's important to clean your microfiber towels, too. A simple technique is to run warm water from the tap and a few drops of dishwashing soap over them. Wring out the towel and microwave it on high for 90 seconds. This will kill germs and give you a fresh-smelling towel.

When you replace inefficient lightbulbs in your home with newer, longer-lasting LED bulbs, what do you do with the old bulbs? When it comes to CFL bulbs, it's important to recycle them in free recycling bins at stores like Lowe's and Home Depot, since they contain mercury. Be sure to recycle old neon lights and industrial bulbs in those bins, too. When it comes to incandescent and halogen bulbs, those should not be recycled in the bins; they contain no mercury and can be thrown away in the trash when they burn out.
