The next time you get in your car, open all the windows. When your car is parked in the sun with all the windows closed, it creates a mini greenhouse that raises the interior temperature of your car considerably. On hot days, you'll want to turn on the air conditioning right away, but letting the hot air escape through the windows makes the air conditioner more efficient when you turn it on a few minutes later. There are some studies that suggest that the heated plastics inside the car can release various toxins on particularly hot days, so this also helps ventilate the air, too.

It is possible to prevent spiderwebs from overtaking the outside of your house without power-washing or chemical insect repellants. All-natural sprays called "web repellants" use a combination of all-natural essential oils -- like thyme, lemongrass and citronella -- and liquid soap to make these areas of your home less attractive to spiders. The arachnids will avoid where you spray and set up their webs, which are effective to keep insects like mosquitoes at bay, elsewhere.

If you're wondering why your central air conditioning unit is keeping your home too cold in the warmer months, it may be what's affecting your programmable thermostat. If you keep heat-producing items like lamps, electronics and appliances near your thermostat, it can throw off the entire air conditioning system. It will read your home as much warmer than it actually is and force the system to work harder. Be sure to place your thermostat away from heat-producing items and out of the sun's rays.
