When you pump gas and smell it, it's not just obnoxious -- it could also be toxic. The fumes you smell are likely benzene and toluene, which can lead to health problems. When pumping gas, the proper way to fill up is to insert the nozzle into the tank, and use the "hold-open latch," which pumps gas continuously without needing to hold the nozzle. Stand a few feet away to avoid the fumes, and be sure to not top off the tank, which can release additional fumes into the atmosphere.

Around 26 percent of all fruits and vegetables grown in the United States never make it to store shelves because they look ugly or irregular. Even though the produce is perfectly fine to eat, stores think consumers want only perfect apples, tomatoes and other perishables. The Ugly Fruit and Veg Campaign (endfoodwaste.org) is working hard to change the perception that irregular is bad -- instead, it's great. To help, Instagram pics of funny-looking produce using #uglyreallyisbeautiful and buy irregular stock at your supermarket.

Anyone with an aquarium knows the importance of having a supply of activated charcoal on hand to keep the fish tank fresh. Even if you don't keep fish, it's worth a trip to the pet store to pick some up. Why? Activated charcoal (unlike regular barbecue briquettes) has very small pores that are supercharged in their ability to absorb things. This includes odors! So fill a bowl with activated charcoal and place it wherever it smells musky or bad, like a refrigerator or closet, for a natural way to deodorize.
