It may seem harmless, but those little stickers you find on fruits and vegetables can wreak havoc on drains and at wastewater treatment plants. Before washing fruits and veggies, take the time to remove the stickers and put them in the trash. When they accidentally get washed down the drain, their adhesive can stick inside drains and pipes. If they get past that point, they get caught in screens and filters at water treatment plants. It may not seem like a big deal, but if you think about the amount of produce that's stickered, it adds up.

Have a broken desktop computer that looks like a relic from the past? You can help support the good works of Goodwill and get rid of the computer at the same time. Goodwill has partnered with Dell through the Dell Reconnect program to recycle old computers, hard drives, monitors, keyboards and printers for free. All you do is box it up and bring it to any Goodwill that accepts donations. The staff will sort through it and determine whether it can be refurbished, reused or recycled.

When getting a cup of hot coffee from your local joint, the greenest way to avoid disposables is to use a stainless steel mug. But do you know how many times you need to reuse it before you see any environmental savings? When you break down the amount of raw materials and energy needed to make a reusable mug versus a disposable cup, a Stanford Magazine story estimated you would need to use it at least 170 times to see any eco-savings. But that's only if you toss the stainless steel mug. When it's time to replace it, recycle it -- your green savings will be much greater.
