Many of us have gas-powered stoves in the kitchen that we use on a day-to-day basis. But did you know that if your gas range isn't properly maintained, you could be releasing high amounts of carbon monoxide into your home? Do this one easy tip: Turn on your stove and range and look at the burners. Are the flames blue, or are they yellow-tipped? If you see yellow, it's a sign your stove is releasing too much carbon monoxide, and it needs to be readjusted, repaired or replaced. Contact the manufacturer for how to remedy the situation.

Ever wonder what to do with small personal care appliances like hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons when they no longer work? First, don't donate broken appliances to charities like Goodwill and Salvation Army; they don't want them, and it costs them money to dispose of the goods. But the good news? They are easily recyclable. Best Buy will take your broken personal care appliances and recycle them free of charge. Just bring them to the store, and it'll handle the rest.

A small water leak may seem harmless, but these itty-bitty drops of water can lead to up to 3,000 gallons of wasted water per year. While the easiest way to fix these leaks is to hire a plumber, sometimes you can discover them during off-hours or during particularly busy times. Instead of turning off the main water valve for the entire house, do a temporary fix. At the home improvement store, look for silicone repair tape, which is designed to mold around the leak and create a temporary seal for small holes. It will stop the leak and give you a few days before you need a professional to come and fix it.
