Do this one thing if you want to help extend and protect the life of your clothes: Never store dirty laundry near freshly laundered pieces in the closet. Body oils, perfumes and other barely there scents can be enough to attract fabric-damaging insects from your pile of to-do laundry. Insects that are attracted to the scent will then wreak havoc on clothes -- used and new. So keeping your laundry pile far away from your freshly washed clothes is one way to help keep your closet free of damaging insects.

The difference between white flour and whole-wheat flour is one ingredient: wheat germ. That's what gives it the distinct off-white color and nutty taste. But because the wheat germ has natural oils in it, whole-wheat flour spoils much more quickly than white flour. To extend its lifespan, store whole-wheat flour in the freezer. It keeps the oils stable and will add months to the shelf life. Be sure to keep the flour in an airtight container to keep it smelling and tasting fresh.

Wild animals don't know the difference between food that's good for them and a meal that can harm them. One way we can help wildlife from harming themselves is to make our trash as unappealing as possible. According to the Humane Society of the United States, one way to do that is to make sure all recyclables are rinsed out to remove all food remnants and odors. Animals like skunks can get their heads stuck in containers in search of food. Also, be sure any plastic food wrap is rinsed and then placed inside another container inside of the trash can; food wrap can be ingested when animals think it's food, so make it impossible for them to get their paws on it.
