Instead of using toxic chlorine bleach to whiten whites, head to the produce section of the supermarket. Real lemon juice can have almost the same brightening power of bleach and will help remove rust stains and dullness. Just add about 1/4- to 1/2-cup lemon juice to the wash cycle and let the natural bleaching properties of the lemon juice do its work. An added benefit? Lemon juice smells fresh and clean, and your clothes will, too.

One way to save money on organic produce is to buy in-season and locally when it's in abundance. Not only is it at its cheapest, it's also at its peak flavor and freshness. When buying in abundance, try flash-freezing your organic haul so you have a stash you can use for months to come. Flash-freezing is simple: Dice the organic produce into manageable sizes and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Freeze for a few hours and transfer the frozen organic produce into airtight freezer bags. When you need your organic produce, just bring the frozen bag out and let it thaw before using.

While taking a cross-country flight is not the greenest option to get from point A to point B, it is inevitable -- at least until solar-powered planes actually become a reality. Two ways to green your flight are to simply pack light, and choose a nonstop flight. The heavier the plane, the more fuel it uses, so bringing less with lighter suitcases actually goes a long way toward reducing the carbon footprint of the flight. A layover or connecting flight can add about 10 percent more to your carbon emissions, so going nonstop is a faster and greener way to go.
