Having outdoor lighting in your garden can create an enchanting paradise, but it can be unappealing to nocturnal creatures. If possible, opt for solar-powered lanterns that cast a soft glow when the sun sets and will automatically turn off when the internal rechargeable battery is empty. Or put your lights on a timer to automatically turn off. By keeping your yard as dark as possible, you'll create an environment perfect for giving many wild animals a safe, comfortable and protected place to call home.

When it comes to giving gifts -- whether it's for a birthday, graduation or housewarming -- it can be a daunting process to find just the right one. And with up to 1 in 3 gifts returned or, worse, thrown away by the recipient, it can also be a wasteful process. Instead of giving a physical gift, try giving an experience: a dinner for two, tickets to a movie, a massage or a personal training session. Memories don't take up any room.

In warmer months, many of us open windows in our home to flush out airborne toxins. It's called cross ventilation, and a breezy day will help to keep indoor air quality cleaner. But think about your home-away-from-home: your car. Park your car outside and open all the windows to flush out the odors and toxins building up inside. Remove floor mats and vacuum them well; leave them out so the sun's rays deodorize them naturally. And pop the trunk while you're at it: De-clutter to lighten the load and improve your car's mpg.
