Do you pour leftover coffee down the drain at the end of the day? How about giving your plants a java boost instead? Coffee is rich in phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper and nitrogen -- all things plants love. So dilute cold coffee with water, and give your houseplants a good drink. And if you're not a coffee drinker, plants love brewed tea, too.

If you drink a cold beer with a lime and you squeeze the lime into the bottle, can you recycle it? When it comes to small food waste in your recyclables, a lime wedge is totally fine. In the recycling process, glass bottles are collected, crushed and melted; any residual waste (limes, labels, caps) is sorted out or incinerated. So go ahead and enjoy your drink -- just be sure to recycle it when you're done.

During the winter months, millions of gorgeous monarch butterflies travel thousands of miles to the forests of Mexico to retreat from freezing temperatures and conserve energy for their trip back north in the spring. Recently, the forests the butterflies depend on have been clear-cut, leaving less space for them to thrive. The nonprofit Forests for Monarchs is trying to change that -- it has replanted more than 5 million trees since 2010. You can help by planting 50 trees (for $25.00) or 100 trees (for $50.00) by visiting forestsformonarchs.org.
