Some of the best treats in the summer are cold, delicious Popsicles. But not only do Popsicles come with lots of disposable packaging (boxes, wrappers, wooden sticks), they are energy hogs -- they need to be frozen from the time they leave the factory to the time they stay in the supermarket. That's a lot of bone-chilling, energy-hogging transport! Instead, try making your own treats at home by investing in a reusable, dishwasher-safe ice pop mold. Come up with crazy flavors, and get to eating!

On your next journey abroad, be sure to check out the website packforapurpose.org. By "donating" a little extra space in your luggage, you can bring needed items to local schools or hospitals. You can bring anything from 400 pencils or five deflated soccer balls with an inflation device to a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and 500 bandages. When you arrive at your destination, just find the hotel or lodging facility that participates in the program, and drop off your goods. It's that simple!

If you're in a drought and there are restrictions on watering your lawn, don't worry if the grass turns brown. A brown lawn is not a dead lawn: an underground crown of grass will survive that will re-emerge when the weather cools off to create a lush lawn. Keep in mind that watering your lawn less in the summer months can be one of the best ways to save water. On average, more than 67,000 gallons of water are used to water lawns during this time.
